1927 Waco Three-Peats
Waco wins third straight title, and 4th in 6 years with a 21-14 victory over Abilene.
1937 Amarillo Matches Waco
Amarillo wins it's third straight championship with a 10-6 win over Kerrville.
1945 Big Battle
Highland Park and Waco play to a 7-7 tie in the 1945 state championship game before a then record crowd of 45,790 at the Cotton Bowl.
1948 Adding Class
Classifications are instituted and known as City, 1A, and 2A.
1951 Class Addition
Classifications 3A and 4A are added.
1953 The Sugar Land Express Sets Mark
Sugar Land High School senior Ken Hall finished his career with a record 11,232 yards rushing. It was the most ever by a school-boy running back.
Hall, a 6-foot-1, 205 pound running back played college football at Texas A&M for Bear Bryant. Known as the "Sugar Land Express" he set 15 state and/or national records during his prep career. During his senior season, Hall averaged an astonishing 337.1 rushing yards per game. In a game against Houston Lutheran, Hall averaged 47.3 yards on 11 carries for 520 yards.
1956 The "Team of the Century"
Abilene, who was voted the "Team of the Century' in 1999 by the Dallas Morning News wins it's third consecutive state title, wrapping up a run that included a 49 game win streak.
1956 Mr. Interception
Jim Linnstaeder, of Brenham High School, intercepted 35 passes to establish the high school record for interceptions in a single season.
1965 UIL Membership Expanded
The UIL opened membership to all schools regardless of race. Previously, African American schools were governed by the PVIL (Prairie View Interscholastic League), which had operated since 1920, and continued on a limited basis from 1965-70 when it disbanded.
1972 Small Classes Added
Classifications for 6 Man, 8 Man and Class B added.
1974 Career Rushing Record
Hooks RB Billy Sims ends his high school career by establishing a national record for consecutive 100 yard games with 38.
1976 Class Dropped
8 Man football is dropped.
1977 A Record Crowd
Plano defeats Port Neches-Groves 13-10 at Texas Stadium in front of the largest crowd to ever witness a Texas High School football playoff game (49,953).
1979 Giving the Bands Their Props
The first UIL state band marching contest is held.
1980 Class Subtraction and Addition
Class B football is eliminated and class 5A is added.
1983 Total Domination
The class 3A Daingerfield Tigers complete one of the most dominating seasons ever, going 16-0 and outscoring their opponents 631-8. They recorded 14 shutouts, including the final 13 games of the season.
1985 Legendary Coach Retires
Legendary Brownwood coach Gordon Wood retires after a then state record 396 victories to go along with a combined 9 state titles. He coached at Rule, Roscoe, Seminole, Winters and Stamford, where he won 80 games and two titles in seven years.
His final 26 years of coaching were spent at Brownwood where he won 257 games and seven state titles. He belongs to six halls of fame and was named high school "Coach of the Century" in 1999 by the Dallas Morning News.
1987 Mr. Touchdown Catch
Shane Boyd of New Deal High School catches 33 touchdown passes to set a national record.
1990 Friday Nights Lights
The book "Friday Night Lights" by author H.G. Bissinger hits the newstands. The book is based around the 1988 season of the Odessa Permian Panthers football team and focuses on the importance of Odessa Permian football to the population there. The book is later translated to both the big and small screens.
1994 Regular Season Streak
Southlake Carroll wins it's 72nd consecutive regular season game to set a state record.
1996 Playoff Division
4A and 5A classifications are broken down into Divisions I and II for the playoffs.
1998 Stephenville Scores Again
Stephenville High School broke the 73-year old national record for yards in a season with 8,664. The previous mark of 8,588 was held by Pine Bluff, Ark., established in 1925.

2000 Roaring Rebels
The Cedric Benson led Midland Lee Rebels beat Austin Westlake 33-21 for their third consecutive state title.
2001 Bobcats on the Prowl
Celina goes 16-0 for the third consecutive year and wins it's 4th consecutive class 2A Division II state championship with a 41-35 victory over Garrison.
2004 Legendary Coach Retires Part II
G.A. Moore, the state's all-time winningest coach with 404 wins, retires. Moore spent 39 of his 42 years in coaching at Pilot Point, his alma mater, and Celina, where he won six state titles and four straight from 1998-2001. He also won titles at Celina, located about eight miles from Pilot Point, in 1974 and 1995, and guided Pilot Point to back-to-back titles in 1980 and 1981. He also coached at Bryson and Sherman.

2006 A Record Attendance?
On their way to a fourth 5A state title in five years, Southlake Carroll meets Euless Trinity in the second round of the playoffs and emerges with a scintillating 22-21 victory before an announced crowd of 43,339 at Texas Stadium. The attendance appears to approach 60,000 midway through the third quarter, which would have set an all-time playoff record.
